Today I would like to share with you an incredible story in Honor of Staff Sergeant John R. Simonetti, MIA, found after 65 years. 2nd Division, 9th Infantry Regiment

“Uncle” John was found after being buried under a road in the heart of St. Germain d’Elle in Normandy.

Last Summer, I had the privilege of guiding his Niece Beth and her Family from Omaha beach, where the 2nd division landed on June 7th, 1944, to the Cemetery in Colleville where a very heartwarming ceremony was conducted by ABMC associate Anthony Lewis.

Afterwards, we followed the 2nd Divisions’ path through Trevieres to St.Germain d’Elle, where the Mayor of this small village (Population 198) and other locals had a“Vin d’honneur” for Uncle John. He was found right next to where the Memorial marker stands now, which the town itself paid for. I was so moved by his incredible story that I will include this on every Normandy Tour I conduct in the future.
